The End of Summertime

By Cecelia, Kid Editor-in-Chief, age 11

Summertime is approaching its end, and it seemed like just yesterday that school was finally out for the summer. Our family’s summer has mostly been spent having dance parties, watching episodes of some of our favorite shows on the PlayStation downstairs, and reading books. This year we’re going to be homeschooled and we’re starting school on August 10th, which just so happens to be National S’mores Day.

Every year we do an End-of-Summer Surprise. It’s been different each year. One year we went to Olive Garden as a family. Another year we had a living room sleepover (which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like, just everybody in our family just sleeping in the living room like we’re having a sleepover), ate candy while we watched a movie, and made sculptures out of clay and baked them. Yet another year we went to Build-a-Bear and got stuffed animals. This year our End-of-Summer Surprise is starting with us watching a movie and eating pizza tonight. Then the next day we’re going to have a sundae bar with different flavors of ice cream.

I’m excited for school to start again because I think homeschool is going to be a blast. I can’t wait!
